Detecting Cancerous Brain Cells

A major problem in operative oncology is the correct definition of the nature of the tissue whether for the diagnosis or tumor removal. I had the opportunity to undergo a practical with a research team at the PIMPA platform aiming to solve this problem to eventually reduce the re-operation rate and the recurrence rate of the cancer. The aim of their project is to develop a multimodal and portable  fiber-optic endomicroscope. The instrument will be coupled with a database on endogenous tissue fluorescence and AI to provide clinicians with a real time rapid response on the nature of the tissue to be operated on.
